The long-awaited jailbreak for Apple Inc.'s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 9 was released on the internet today. Performing a jailbreak on your device allows a user to circumvent the restrictions placed by Apple on the operating system. While the company does not approve of these practices, a set team of developers around the world work round the clock to make this possible. Today, the untethered version of the iOS9 jailbreak was released and while users are still doing the deed on their phones, we tried performing a jailbreak ourselves on the iPhone 5s and it worked flawlessly. Since the iPhone 5s is a bit outdated right now, the process was smooth sailing and after the installation, the phone had not slowed down and was still fast.
While we don’t condone the use of a software exploit such as that of a jailbreak, Bidness Etc will take a look into how this can be done. Before you do anything, a backup is essential for your phone; you can do this locally by connecting your phone to iTunes and selecting the backup option. Moreover, it’s also possible to do that with the iCloud backup options on the phone.
The company that released the jailbreak this time around is Pangu, and it has provided a download link to the jailbreak tool here. While the 70mb file is being downloaded, it is essential that you remove the pass code from your phone, including TouchID, and also turn on Airplane Mode. Moreover, the feature, “Find my iPhone” also needs to be turned off so that the jailbreak process is a smooth sailing one. When that is done, exit iTunes and then connect your phone to your laptop or computer. The jailbreak tool will prompt you to start the process, wherein it will work on your software. There is no need for alarm when the phone turns on and off, but the tool will then instruct you to unlock your phone and then turn on airplane mode again. Following that, the tool will then ask for access to your photos, after which the jailbreak will be injected. After the process is complete, your phone should have two new apps, Cydia and Pangu.
Since it’s the first day for the release of the jailbreak, the tweaks on Cydia don’t yet support iOS9. However, there is a list of all supported tweaks on a subreddit on reddit, /r/Jailbreak. The only way the jailbreak will be smooth is when you follow all the instructions to the letter, and your iPhone 5s will be able to run the latest untethered jailbreak. Happy Tweaking!
